Fiat

Ten years ago today, our family received a kiss from the Lord through the birth of our third son.  There were some concerns during my pregnancy about some possible physical defect in the development of the baby’s jaw, but the thought that we would leave the hospital without ever bringing our child home had not occurred to us.

Gabriel lived for only two hours here on earth, however, the impact he had on our lives during that short time was the lightening bolt that awakened our spiritual life.

We all know the saying about 20/20 hindsight.  Looking back, it’s so clear that it was the grace of the Holy Spirit that saw us through that dark time.  It was that same grace that also inspired our son’s name.

Before he was born, we didn’t know if we were having a boy or a girl, and of all the names on our list, Gabriel was not one of them.  Years later, my husband and I agree—-the name is quite a fit for one who, like the Angel Gabriel, heralded the birth of Jesus…into our hearts.

Happy Birthday, Dearest Gabriel!

Greater love than this no man hath, that a man lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:13)
